Hay my name is Callum Mathieson. I'm from Christchurch New Zealand, shaky town! I started skating just over a year and a half ago now.
My friends started skating with a gnarly bunch of boys (The Banks Boys) who shred any hill they can find. My friend convinced me to start skating, so I did being the adrenaline fiend that I am I did and I haven't stopped.
I try to skate as often as I can, almost every day and the Banks crew show me how it was done. We are always finding new hills and challenging ourselves to go hard. Myles and Alex two of the Banks Boys have started pressing boards and they are looking very nice so look out for them!
We don't have a huge amount of longboards over here but over the last six months I have seen heaps of groms start up and they are all going hard and are soon to leave me in the dust. Most of the roads around Christchurch are laid with big dirtburger seal, big chip seal that is slippery as hell but this has been more of a challenge and now whenever I hop onto smooth seal I feel very goood.
Since the earthquake we had back on February 22nd 2011 my job has been pretty munted and will be a long way away from being fixed. Also a few of our skate hills got a bit messed up. So I thought fuck it I'm going to go and do what i love and go longboard around the world.
I have been in a few races around New Zealand and have had a great time at them all but I suspect they won't be quite in the same league as the races I will be in over seas. I can't wait to race against some of the the best skaters in the world and on some of the meanest roads!
So far I am going to Vernon, Maryhill, Kozakov, Insul and Teolo so if there are any skaters heading to these races and have room for me to tag along or for me to stay at their humble abodes it would be much appreciated.
