Lindstrom Leads Day One Qualifying
 Lindstrom
2006 World Cup Series Champion Fredrik Lindstrom was the fastest day one qualifier.

Calgary, Canada - Fredrik Lindstrom laid down a blistering run of 1:33.484 to lead day one qualifying of the 2011 Winsport Canada Cup.  Lindstrom, who hails from Stockholm, Sweden shocked many of his peers with his quick time.  He was the 2006 IGSA world Cup Series Champion but due to work and family committments, rarely races at the World Cup level anymore.

Calgary will be his only appearance on the World cup tour this year.  Finishing in second position was Louis Pilloni from Los Angeles, California with a time of 1:33.798.  Kyle Martin from Vancouver, Canada was third with a time of 1:33.923.  The yound rider from B.C. has put in a number of strong performances this year.  Adam Persson who like Lindstrom, also hails from Stockholm was fourth with a time of 1:34.143.  Nikolas Desmarais from Montreal, Canada rounded out the top five with a time of 1:34.278.

The morning started out with beautiful, partly cloudy skies for the first three-hour practice session.  A lunch break was held from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.  Qualifying was scheduled to begin immediately after lunch however just as qualifying was about to get underway, a heavy thundershower moved in.  It soaked the track and the lightning forced the closure of the chairlift.  The IGSA officials decided to move qualifying back to 3:30pm hoping that the track would dry.  Fortunately when qualifying began at 3:30pm the course was dry and remained so for the remainder of the session.

Tomorrow's final qualifying session promises to be epic with a deep field of 127 skaters battling it out for the top 96 qualifying positions that will transfer into Sunday's finals.  All of the action will be webcast live here at www.IGSAworldcup.com.
