Street Luge veteran Mike McIntyre qualified first for tomorrow’s Maryhill Festival of Speed Street Luge World Cup . Nobody can match “Big Macs” time and experience on the tough Mayhill track having raced there since 2001. McIntyre has the best setup of all the street lugers and will be tough to beat. 2010 “King for the Hill” Christian Conaway qualified second and Yvon Labarthe moved up one position to round out the top three.

The top six Street Luge qualifiers also participated in the 2011 “King of the Hill” race. McIntyre (USA) Conaway (USA), Labarthe (SUI), Kolby Parks (CAN) Christopher Hicks (USA) and William Condon (CAN) started from the top to attempt to become the IGSA Street Luge King of the Hill. Conaway used his massive push to lead out into the first corner with Labarthe and Hicks hot on his tail.

McIntyre, who is not known for his start, was in sixth position going into the first corner but that would change quickly. He picked off Parks and Condon before the spaghetti straight and dispatched Hicks soon after that. As he gained on Labarthe, the Swiss rider, and McIntyre split Conaway going into Seismic Cowzer Corner.

Coming through into Seismic, McIntyre was able to get on the inside of Labarthe. He held his inside line and passed him through the tricky corner, taking the lead through to the finish to claim the 2011 King of the Hill Crown.
