Silva Breaks The Track Record


Goldendale, WA, USA - Douglas Silva set the fastest qualifying time during todays first qualifying run at the Maryhill Festival of Speed.  Silva, who hails from Sao Leopoldo, Brazil, posted a time of 3:05.662 breaking the exisiting track record of 3:06.424 set by Kevin Reimer back in 2010.   So far has finished in second place at both of the previous World Cup races this season and his hoping to move up to the top step of the podium here in Maryhill.  Alex Tongue from nearby Clackamas, Oregon was second with a time of 3:06.813.  After winning the season opener in Wollongong, Australia, Tongue is being favored

by many to win Sunday's big race.  2011 IGSA World Cup Series Champion Patrick Switzer currently sits in the fifth position with a time of 3:06.975.  Switzer won Maryhill in 2009 and hopes to notch his first World Cup victory of the year here this weekend. 

Mischo Erban currently sits in fourth position with a time of 3:07.017.  Erban is looking really solid this year and won the World Cup race in Bathurst, Australia a few mniths ago.  Rounding out the top five was James Kelly.  Kelly posted a time of 3:07.106 showing he has a very realistic shot at winning on Sunday.

Conaway Leads in Street Luge

With a chance of thunderstorms looming for Saturday qualifying, the street lugers pulled out all the stops to get a good time. Christian Conaway (Ronin Trucks, Seismic Wheels, Tekton Bearings, Honey Skateboards, Khiro, TRS) set the fastest time at the Maryhill Festival of Speed in Goldendale Washington. The California native set a very quick time of 3:03.060. Only four tenths behind was fellow Californian and defending Maryhill winner Mike McIntyre (Ronin Trucks, ABEC 11 Wheels, Venom Bushings) with a 3:03.470. Coming through in third during qualifying was 2011 IGSA NorAm Street Luge runner up Kolby Parks (Buzzed Trucks) with a time of 3:04.152. The field had to contend with hot and slippery conditions of the physically demanding 3.1 kilometre course. Rounding out the top five was Kyle Castaneda (Orangutang Wheels, Tactics Racing) with 3:05.029 and John Rogers with a time of 3:05.636.
